Book Synopsis: The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder by Vincent Bugliosi

Vincent Bugliosi's book is a reason for every libertarian to take heart. Perhaps Might does not make Right after all?

Traveling through O’Hare Airport in early July, I happened upon Mr. Bugliosi’s book and bought one of the twenty or so copies. I’ll admit my first thought was, "Wow, can you really publish something with that kind of title?" Several days later as I exited the country, all the other copies had vanished. Apparently free speech is not yet banned, and not yet unappreciated, and that’s a good reason as any to throw a party these days.

The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder is far more than an anti-Bush rant. Bugliosi, famed for his successful prosecution of Charles Manson for murder, clearly outlines a solid legal case and jurisdiction details for placing Bush on trial in an American court for the murder of the 4,124+ American soldiers killed so far in the Iraq war. Bugliosi puts forth a solid argument that:

  1. Bush specifically intended to have American soldiers killed in Iraq
  2. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rowe led their administration to deliberately deceived Congress and the American people into believing Saddam was an imminent threat to the national security of the United States via "ties to al-Qaeda" and "WMD" while being informed by all intelligence agencies to the contrary that Hussein was not, and
  3. Bush knowingly, even eagerly, decided to launch the preemptive invasion, all the time while knowing it was not the act of self-defense he claimed it was.

Bugliosi delivers the most damning character assassination of Bush I have ever read, though scathing, is also utterly objective - and mostly done by simply documenting his words and actions, both pre- and post-9/11. In addition, he has a great habit of prelisting and disarming possible retorts from the opposition.

I specifically like Bugliosi’s point that since murder has no statute of limitation and that an attorney general from any state could bring a murder charge against Bush at any time. Even if no one takes up Bugliosi’s charge in 2009, Bush will be served with justice like the US-backed Chilean dictator/murderer Augusto Pinochet, taken to court after a 31-year delay. Perhaps the possibility will keep him awake at night, a persistent fear in the depths of his weak mind.

Here is a long snippet on the Afghan war from pages 214-219:

"In December of 2001, just a few months after 9/11, the American military learned that Bin Laden was hiding in Tora Bora, a dense mountain range in southeastern Afghanistan… Instead of sending thousands of American soldiers to go into the mountain range to capture or kill Bin Laden, Bush did not send one single American soldierOne of the warlords, in disbelief and frustration told the assembled press who had converged on Tora Bora: "If America wants to capture Osama, why aren’t they trying?" A top aide to [the warlord fighting al-Qaeda] said: "I don’t think the United States wants to capture Osama. We know where he is, we tell them and they do nothing. So they are not as serious as they say they are."

…From the day of the invasion (commenced by air strikes) in Afghanistan on October 7, 2001, through December 7, when the Taliban regime collapsed, not one single American soldier died in combat. Why? Because the real fighting in the Afghan war was being done almost exclusively by the Northern Alliance. Our military was only there in an advisory and support capacity… and our air force, from its safe position high in the clouds beyond the range of the very limited Taliban antiaircraft artillery, dropped bombs on the almost medieval country. If you want to call this "fighting" a war, then you have a different view than I do of what this word means...

A man is seated with his wife at a restaurant table. An armed killer enters the restaurant, shoots and kills the wife, then flees. The man, who everyone would automatically assume would pursue the killer since it was his wife who was killed, and since, it turns out, he was fully armed to do so, decides not to. He tells a stranger at a nearby table that he would appreciate it if he would pursue the killer, which the third party does. That’s exactly what Bush did in the Afghanistan war. Three thousand Americans were murdered, Bush vowed to go after the perpetrators, but instead asked the Northern Alliance, which never lost one of its members during 9/11, to in effect "get even" with the 9/11 killers for us. Shocking? Unbelievable? Yes, but 100 percent true. And through all of this, Bush’s approval rating remained extremely high (84%...) and we learned… how very brave and ballsy Bush was.

With respect to Bush not wanting to use one American soldier to fight the Afghan war, it wasn’t until March 4th, 2002, five months after the war commenced, that American soldiers started fighting in a normal, military way. This, from the March 5, 2002, edition of the New York Times: "In some of the fiercest fighting of the five-month war in Afghanistan, American ground forces took the lead in a large-scale combat operation for the first time…

Bottom line: Although 3,000 American were murdered by Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda on 9/11, and we knew the Taliban was harboring Bin Laden and his al-Qaeda – and although Bush was receiving towering praise in America from Republicans as well as Democrats for his supposedly tough stance against terrorism and his vow to bring back Bin Laden "dead or alive" and to "make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbored them" – Bush’s original intent was to not send one American soldier to go after Bin Laden, al-Qaeda, and the Taliban, all of whom were responsible for 9/11. But Bush was very, very eager, to the point of lying to the American public to get his way, to put over 150,000 American soldiers in harm’s way to go after Saddam Hussein, who he knew had nothing to do with 9/11."

The rest of the commentary on Bush’s pre- and post-9/11 lies and actions, especially the section on his criminal intent, are just as worthwhile. Bugliosi complains of a "virtual blackout" from the mainstream media, just like the media blackout of the Bush impeachment hearing last week, where Bugliosi also spoke. (Sound familiar? For a great set of articles exploring and damning the US’s propaganda ministry please try the latest from Dan Alba’s column "Detain This.") After a lengthy search for a publisher, Vanguard Press, a division of Perseus Books, courageously agreed to publish the book in May, and it now looks like they will profit. Since May, the book has sold 130,000 copies and shot up from #16 to #9 on the New York Times Bestseller list on July 27.

Well, the fact remains that where other authors stopped short in condemning Bush using legal tactics, Bugliosi empathically ended their sentence. Bush’s alleged acts and state of mind meet the legal definition of murder. The same case exists for the murder of 100,000+ Iraqis, although American jurisdiction does not apply. Whether you are cackling with glee or staring in disbelief, Bugliosi’s book is to be saluted. First Amendment believers can rejoice!

Combined with Sherry Baker’s article that outlines the case (pdf link) to prosecute Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and others as war criminals for Torture, if We the People can pull this off, we just might – just might – be one big step closer to getting our country back.

And a big question arises – whomever becomes POTUS, whether it’s the Barackcuda or Jonny McCain, will they pardon Bush for murder? for torture? Both of these crimes are far more serious than Nixon’s wiretapping. A pardon might be the only way to escape justice for this son of privilege, the infamous Crawford slacker (Bush spent 908 out of his first 2,535 days in office on vacation) and the bane of all free peoples on this planet.

malalai joyaMalalai Joya, an elected representative to Afghanistan’s parliament since the American invasion, is most famous for publicly denouncing the warlords at the constitutional convention in 2003.

She has survived four assassination attempts.

She speaks out for the women of Farah in a land and time where they have little or no voice.

She speaks out against the Taliban, who used theocratic rule to oppress women and all dissent.

She speaks out against the warlords who ruined the country once before already in the 1990s after the sacrifice of the freedom fighters who fought for their freedom against the Soviets, and are ruining it again after taking power in the political vacuum America explicitly created for them.

She begs for exactly what the USA claims to have given Afghanistan – right to representation and true democracy, or rule by majority. You would think she would be heralded as a heroine by the American press, but this is not the case. If you scan the archives of FOX, ABC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC for anything about this woman there is either absolutely nothing or just a single blurb.

You see, you never heard of Malalai Joya because, like most of the Afghan populace, she wants the Americans to leave Afghanistan too! No warlords, no Taliban, no silly Americans occupying their lands with the big guns and torture cells. In other words, Malalai and the Afghan people just want peace. Has their country not suffered enough? Far easier said than done of course, but liberation is a life-long struggle.

Ms. Joya has faced plenty of opposition so far. Besides being threatened with rape and hit with water bottles while in Parliament and having to travel under armed guard and wear a burkha, in May 2007 the current government removed her from office after she compared the parliament to a stable of animals. (She later clarified she meant worse than a stable, as domesticated animals serve a purpose.) She traveled abroad seeking support for her cause in the Western world for several years, but the last reports of her I have found is that her passport was stripped from her earlier this year and she is trying to have herself reinstated to parliament before the ban ends in 2010. I believe she is still alive, so by that definition she is still fighting on.

Here is an interview excerpt from America’s leading voice of the Afghanistan situation, whom you probably have never heard of her either, to introduce Joya. Her name is Sonali Kolhatkar, Los Angeles radio host and author of Bleeding Afghanistan: Washington, Warlords, and the Propaganda of Silence:

Interviewer: "There is a very brave and outspoken woman in the Afghan parliament, named Malalai Joya. She has repeatedly put her own life at risk by denouncing the warlords and calling for an end to the US occupation. She has consistently called out for human rights and real democracy. Has the Bush administration done anything at all to promote or protect courageous women who embody "liberal values" like Malalai Joya?"

Kolhatkar: "Women like Malalai Joya are "inconvenient" for the Bush administration. That's because Joya echoes the will of her people in calling for an end to warlords, AND an end to the US occupation. Bush and his cohorts like to promote the type of women who quietly accept the US narrative and show gratitude for being "saved by the Americans." In fact, there are very few such women like that in Afghanistan. Joya speaks for millions of Afghan women when she denounces the warlords. And she has repeatedly put herself in danger. She has nearly been killed at least four times! What this means is that women’s rights are available only to women who do not exercise their rights. And it not just Malalai Joya who is putting herself at risk due to her political activism. I have personally worked very closely with the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, and they have been saying the same things for years. Still, RAWA cannot operate openly without putting themselves in danger of physical harm; so they must carry out their work underground. RAWA has NEVER received any offer of help from the US government (although they would refuse it if it anyway to remain politically independent) Like Joya, the women of RAWA are inconvenient – they do not need to be "saved" by America. But they do need a safe Afghanistan and they deserve international solidarity for their brave human rights work."

Here below I have taken the liberty* (no pun intended) of paraphrasing her speech from the start of the 2003 Loya Jirga constitutional assembly:

"My criticism to all my peers is why should we allow the legitimacy and legality of this constitutional assembly to become questionable with the presence of these felons who brought our country to this war-torn condition?

… Please see the committees and what people are whispering about. The chairman of every committee is already selected. Why not put all these criminals on one committee and let them tell us what they want for this nation. These were those who turned our country into the nucleus of national and international wars. They were the most anti-women people in the society who brought our country to this state and intend to do the same again. I believe that it is a mistake to give them a second chance. They should be taken to national and international court. If they are forgiven by our people, the barefooted Afghan people, our history will never forgive them."

Joya succintly addresses the topic of America in a March 2007 interview with PBS’s NOW:

NOW: "Do you believe that the NATO troops in Afghanistan are helping to improve security?"

Joya: "The U.S. is not concerned with the main cause behind terrorism in Afghanistan. That is why our people don't consider the U.S. as the "liberator" of our country. Even they have killed thousands of our innocent civilians during its so-called "war on terror" and continue to target civilians.

Apparently the U.S. troops are here to fight the Taliban but on the other hand they are fully supporting the Northern Alliance commanders, who, according to recent reports, are the main sellers of weapons and ammunitions to the Taliban and have made life terrible for people in the north of Afghanistan.

I think that no nation can donate liberation to another nation. Liberation is not money to be donated; it should be achieved in a country by the people themselves. The ongoing developments in Afghanistan and Iraq prove this claim. People of other countries only can give us a helping hand and support.

Unfortunately, other countries involved also play a very passive role in Afghanistan. They are exactly following the foot path of the U.S. government and have become a tool in the hands of the U.S. to implement its strategic, regional and economic interests.

Today Afghan people are deeply suspicious about the "war on terror". I think if Spain and other governments really want to help Afghan people and bring positive changes, they must act independently, rather than becoming a tool to implement the policies of the U.S. government. They must align themselves to the wishes and needs of Afghan people and stop any kind of support of the warlords and reactionary and ignorant element within the system. Only then can they gain people's trust and will prove themselves as real friends of Afghan people."

NOW: "What would you like Americans to know about your country?"

joya1Joya: "I want them to know that Afghan people have been victims of the U.S. government's wrong policies in the past three decades following the Cold War. They should know that Afghanistan is not "liberated" at all as trumpeted by the Western media. They should know that their government is playing a chess game with our country and is not interested in its stability. They should know that worse enemies of the Afghan people, those who brought Osama Bin Laden to Afghanistan and slaughtered our people and committed unbelievable crimes against its unfortunate women, are now in power and backed by the U.S. government. They should know that Afghan people are facing a 9/11 everyday. They should know that under the U.S. occupation, Afghanistan has become the world's number one opium producer and a large part of it is smuggled to the U.S. Finally they should know that, like all human beings Afghan people love democracy and freedom and dream of a prosperous life. While we hate the war-mongering and criminal-fostering policies of the U.S. government, we feel, acknowledge and thank the sympathies and support of the U.S. people and learn from their humanism and dedication."

I have nothing more to add to her words to my fellow Americans. Although I greatly prefer a republic form of government rather than democracy, whatever form another country's people choose is fine by me.  Unfortunately, most people these days do not even know the difference.

America, Were Michael Phelps' Eight Olympic Gold Medals Worth Winning?

I confess that due to being an athlete and loving competition myself, I greatly admire the athletes.  Their abilities represent the human potential, and in a way every world record set pushes at our limits.  However, surely a darker way of looking the Olympics is similar to Dan Clore’s article "A Libertarian View of the Olympics" as just a nationalized bread-and-circus event or an opiate for the masses.  Surely some of the events are graded in a subjective manner – while one can run a marathon with a certain indisputable time, the same cannot be said of diving or synchronized swimming, or this jump-rope-tossing-and-dancing event I saw.

Here in China, they absolutely LOVE to show the medal count, primarily since they have had the highest number of gold medals throughout the competition.  This led me to start thinking what exactly is in the gold, silver, and bronze medals.  It turns out that there are enough details online to estimate the intrinsic value of the metal in the medals.

A Gold Medal (mostly silver with 6 grams of gold) is worth about $570.

A Silver Medal (mostly silver) is worth about $403.

A Bronze Medal (mostly copper) is worth about $11.

An Olympic gold medal made of pure gold would weigh about 4 pounds, about twice as much as a silver medal.  A pure gold medal would be worth about $50,000.  Now THAT would be closer to a worthy prize for an athlete training for their whole life to be the best in the world!  Michael Phelps would be taking home $400,000 in gold instead of a few measly grand!

Many are unaware, but the origin of the Olympics medals do not go back to ancient Greece, only to the first Olympics in Athens during 1896.  But it does go back to a time when gold and silver were used by the entire world as money.  Honest money.  Unfortunately, in today’s world, we have forgotten honest money.  Our governments have stolen its very meaning from us.  It has led to far more wars, sadness, and theft than a world with gold would have had.  Did you know that even today the Constitution of the United States clearly specifies that only gold and silver coinage should be used as money?  How did this happen?

These are the names of the nine (9) combat dead in a skirmish on July 13, 2008, on the Afghani-Pakistani border. Their outpost in the city of Wanat was overwhelmed by Pakistani tribal freedom fighters, and American forces retreated under heavy fire. To these dead young Americans and the other 4,673 American warrior dead in Afghanistan and Iraq, sorry guys, I will never give up, but not enough of us are protesting, contacting our Congress, and basically making a nuisance of ourselves about the Senselessness of your Deaths. The cost of gas, the financial markets and whether the Next President can Save Us from Terrorists and Fix the Economy, gay marriage, health care even! are still too important. As in Iraq, as in Vietnam, the thesis is Obama and America simply does not understand regional cultural and political truths, and that you cannot invade a country, oppress, torture, and kill its people, and expect them to be happy about it.

(Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Democrats are endorsing war sanctions on Iran – air, sea, land blockade - for Israel and "Our Oil", claiming "Weapons of Mass Destruction" – nay, not even this really, but the "Possible Future Potential to Make Weapons of Mass Destruction.")

SecDef Gates and Admiral Mullen stated they will Surge some of the 150,000 troops previously Surged to Iraq "sooner rather than later" to Afghanistan, while stating Pakistan must do a better job of protecting its borders. America from Jan-June 2008 has dropped 1,853 bombs on Afghanistan - on pace to break the total number of bombs dropped in all of 2006-2007. This Air Force Times article speculates that "as high as those numbers are, they may understate the intensity of the combat."

Obama, politically trying to preempt McCain, on his mock presidential foreign policy tour of Afghanistan yesterday stated he supports surging an additional 7,000 troops to the area. In the same article it states that military analysts disagree sending more troops is the answer. Why do we seem so anxious to repeat Soviet history? Let us not forget that the Soviet Afghanistan war expenditures helped accelerate the bankruptcy and breakdown of the Soviet Union's empire, why not the same fate for our own empire? However politically astute Obama’s moves are - for he is right, the Afghanistan war curries much more favor and far less popular resistance than that other silly, minor war we have in Iraq - let us not be blinded that Obama’s Ideology of using Military Might is no less different than those of the Neocon's.

Obama and the Bush Administration are ignoring several truths.

First, that United States itself cannot even adequately patrol its Mexico or Canadian borders. It is estimated hundreds of thousands cross the Mexican border undetected every year. What right do we have to demand this of Pakistan? And if you know a little geography, the Pakistani border is all extremely mountainous terrain where armies of thousands can disappear without a trace – as the mujahedins, including Bin Laden, did in the 1980s under US sponsorship to fight the Soviets. Indeed, if you take a closer look at the DoD obituary again, I find it sadly ironic that the 9 dead soldiers’ unit was based in the Vicenza, Italy, and died patrolling another foreign border, far from the American heartland. I mean I know the Italians need our help still, but my Grandfathers ended WWII almost 70 years ago!

Let me see if I get this right - we leave our borders undefended, post our armies abroad and then complain that other countries need to control their borders – we are a bunch of whiners if you ask me, if our government apparatus in Washington wants to police the world, FINE! Go ahead and try to Police all International Borders in the Middle East and Europe while neglecting America’s! I hope you go bankrupt! (Wait a sec, I pay for this…) Anyways - bottom line - we have been there for seven (7) years and have not succeeded in evicting al-Qaeda – we have only strengthened them, and it is foolish to believe we are only fighting them – the Taliban, the many other tribal groups, any and all dissenters of the current Afghanistan government we installed, all the children that have grown up in a war zone only to know that the American Way is one of oppression, torture, and murder of civilians – certainly not the original goals of removing al-Qaeda nor the new goals of 'spreading democracy' and 'nation-building.'

Second, Pakistan government is in chaos. They need to deal with surging inflation, food, water, electricity shortages in the cities and political infighting and they do NOT have the time to worry about the tribal regions. And why would they? Don’t you think that attacking the militant areas (picture Louisiana) would not look to the Pakistanis as if the government was murdering its own citizens? The Pakistani army refuses to be the US’s patsy again and invade the tribal regions and rightfully so – they would get bloodied like the first time they attacked at our behest. The sad truth here is that while we whine about Iran possibly getting nukes in the future, our actions are destabilizing Pakistan, a nuclear power right next to its arch-enemy, India. (2-minute all-you-need-to-know summary of India-Pakistan war, funny but true) Keep in mind that this government has kept millions of Afghanis as refugees over the last three decades, which I believe is more people for more time than any other nation in history! The current UN count is 1.3 million. You can bet some of them will fight tooth and nail against the current tribal Karzid Afghanistan government if they are forced to return, but at the same time acknowledge that Pakistan has done the world and these refugees a favor by supporting them for so long.

The third truth is we are going to lose this "War on Terror." Here’s another view on the geopolitical position.

"The US is in a bind. It has to deny the Pahktun insurgency (the Taliban are only one part of it) the use of the tribal areas as a base. With Pakistan showing no will to control these areas, it is threatening to take unilateral military action there. This will obviously be through air strikes and Special Forces raids, both notorious for their inevitable "collateral damage." This will add fuel to the fire of militancy, pushing more recruits into the ranks of the jihad, especially the deadly suicide bombers. An insurgency cannot be defeated by a few successful decapitation strikes, or even by turning a rugged mountainous base area into a free-fire zone. The more perceptive US commanders probably know this, but they have to be seen to do something about the continuous guerrilla attacks. How long will the NATO allies stick around fighting an unwinnable war? How long will the US public put up with it?

But that is not the worst of it. Believing Pakistan to be complicit in the US strikes on their people, the tribal militants will turn on it; they have already seen the deadly effect of their suicide bombs in the teeming cities. An already fragile governmental and societal structure will face severe stress; anything could happen. One thing is certain - the religious fundamentalists in the country will take full advantage of this turmoil. For the US, the first impact will be on their supply line through Pakistan. Then, Pakistan itself, as an ally, will be at risk.

If the US mounts sustained attacks on the tribal areas, this will be regarded by all Pakistanis as an attack on their country. The upsurge of anti-US feeling will be such that neither the government nor the military could thereafter afford to show any sign of cooperation with the US. That will seriously compound US problems in Afghanistan and the region. Several commentators have mentioned the possibility of Pakistan unravelling. This is unlikely, but when things continue to spiral downwards, people tend to turn to saviours – and this is what religious fundamentalists claim to be, especially where corruption, lawlessness, and insecurity flourish."

I have a solution. Just leave. Come home. I don’t want any more American troops dying – for who? for what? So Mr. and Mrs. Mohammed can go vote? So the freedom-fighters can grow in strength and overturn governments? (For freedom-fighters is what the terrorists are after really, freedom from the USA’s Empire, same as me in a way, but really far more scared of the US, far more desperately violent than I.) Cui bono? Who is benefiting? We can start a peaceful transition for the world if we change to a foreign policy of non-interventionalism. We will not be overrun by terrorists, retreat is actually the best ploy to bring them into the open, where they can be divided and destroyed politically (and not just by us!) or, if We the People deem it necessary, Letters of Marque could be issued to bring individuals to justice. And in the long run, our freedoms (and if you follow the markets and economy, our prosperity) will return.

Here is what the other Voice of "Change", Senator "Barackcuda" Obama said in a long-winded, but, I am sure, touchingly eloquent and charismatic speech on national security.

"The greatest threat to that security lies in the tribal regions of Pakistan, where terrorists train and insurgents strike into Afghanistan. We cannot tolerate a terrorist sanctuary, and as President, I won’t. We need a stronger and sustained partnership between Afghanistan, Pakistan and NATO to secure the border, to take out terrorist camps, and to crack down on cross-border insurgents. We need more troops, more helicopters, more satellites, more Predator drones in the Afghan border region. And we must make it clear that if Pakistan cannot or will not act, we will take out high-level terrorist targets like bin Laden if we have them in our sights."

"Greatest" threat, eh? So if Pakistan’s democratically-elected government tells us (as they have) we cannot attack their sovereign soil (which they Pakis cannot allow, as explained above) we will attack anyways? This is called preemptive war against the Pakistani tribal peoples. I plead with you Reader, when attacked or suffer from "collateral damage" these tribal people will NOT give a damn about the Injustices of 9/11 or Spreading Democracy or American National Security, the deaths of their children will result in them attacking their oppressors, the Americans. WAKE UP AMERICA, this is no different from what Hitler did in 1939. Here is another like-minded take from the former UN Kashmir mission head on Obama's pronouncement. Two last comments - it is a known fact that Bush’s Predator drone attacks are infamous for causing high amounts of civilian deaths, what is callously dismissed as collateral damage. It is a known fact that on his nice, comprehensive, expensive website "Barackcuda" also lists increasing the size of the military by nearly 100,000 troops as a top priority. One has to ask, if the troops are coming home, why do we need more of them?

However, we are already attacking Pakistan. The CIA in 2006 bombed Pakistan killing several al-Qaeda although there was plenty of "collateral damage." The intended target survived. The reply from the Pakistani tribals? A suicide bombing in Afghanistan, killing 22 civilians. Note that they attacked and blamed the Afghanis for permitting this to occur, where the rightful blame rests on the USA. This story is told in the opening pages of this document, an interesting read from the US Institute for Peace, although I maintain my solution is in fact more peaceful for America than theirs.

So, do you want my type of change or Obama’s? Obama, McCain, it makes no difference. Don’t you see? They both support the "War on Terror." This war is not only unconstitutional as Congress has never declared war but, above all, these Wars are morally wrong. And I fail to understand why a population with predominantly Christian values such as the Sanctity of Life has been scared by a small group of frightened, weak, stateless terrorists. Why continue to permit war’s violence, oppression, torture, murder? Surely if all of us rose up as I have, we could end these Wars.

Author’s Note: Sorry for ranting a bit, but I just got back from a month off and found my country in even more of a mess due to our foreign and economic policies of incessant intervention. I will continue to bring this message until the Internet is regulated and sites like this one are closed down. It is my estimation that this should only take one or at most two more terrorist attacks. For those of you interested more in learning about the Afghanistan situation, I highly recommend the 2008 Academy Award Winning Best Documentary (and free!), Taxi to the Dark Side. A quote from Obama's cousin (in fact, I am not kidding! would hate to be at THAT family reunion), Dick Cheney, sets the theme for the movie. Yesterday Obama visited Bagram Base, one of the more forbidding backdrops of the movie.
